Emotions Are Deceiving!

For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live. Those whom the Spirit of God leads are the children of God. Romans 8:13-14

Emotions are deceiving. They will lead you astray every time. They will make you believe that something is real when it isn’t. Take love, for instance. When you fall in love with someone who is unequally yoked with you, you think you can change them. You believe that that person will come to Jesus because you want them to. But if you’re not strong in your faith, their unbelief will lead you astray. You’ll find yourself sleeping in on Sunday mornings because you stayed up late the night before. As a woman, you watched the game with them, and as a man or woman, you went to parties you didn’t want to attend because you wanted to get along and keep the peace. You start using substances because your partner wants you to. Your bible collects dust because you’re too busy pleasing your partner instead of God.

I don’t trust my emotions; they are like a roller coaster, up and down. If my feelings are hurt, then the whole world is imperfect, and I am depressed. When things are good, I’m on top of the world. I’ve been told not to make decisions when angry or go grocery shopping when hungry.

It is essential to read the Bible because it shows us the will of God. God’s ways and thoughts are higher than our own. He knows the present and the future. Even Jesus said in the Garden of Gethsemane, “Not My will but Your will be done.” In Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus instructed the disciples to pray like this, “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name, Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. (Matthew 6:9-13). His will brought us grace and reconciliation with the Father.
